TOM'S Sports Dampers (TA Series – Damping Force Adjustable)

The TOM'S Sports Damper (TA Series – Adjustable Damping Force) is a high-performance shock absorber designed to utilize factory mounting points and specifications. Because it is fully compatible with stock springs and upper mounts, it serves as an ideal replacement for factory shocks that have suffered from aging or oil leaks. It is also an essential upgrade for those who wish to maintain the factory ride height while seeking superior ride comfort and handling responsiveness.
[Adoption of a Sealed Structure]
Unlike conventional shock absorbers that can be disassembled and reassembled, this product utilizes an integrated "sealed structure." This design achieves high production yields and consistent quality, allowing us to offer top-tier quality at an accessible price point.
[Enhanced Strength and Durability]
Regarding strength and durability, the lower mounting section for MacPherson strut suspensions utilizes thicker steel, ensuring structural rigidity that exceeds factory standards. This not only extends the product's lifespan but also significantly improves support rigidity, resulting in more stable and reassuring handling characteristics (steel thickness varies slightly by vehicle model).
Furthermore, the damper body is constructed from a high-strength material with 1.5 times the tensile strength of the factory part, while maintaining the same wall thickness to avoid added weight. In addition to increased body strength, the tube diameter has been enlarged compared to the factory part to increase internal oil capacity, ensuring stable damping performance even during prolonged driving.
[Stroke-End Shock Absorption Mechanism]
While conventional shock absorbers typically rely on rubber bump stops to prevent "bottoming out" at the limit of the stroke, the TOM'S Sports Damper (TA Series – Adjustable Damping Force) incorporates a dedicated shock absorption mechanism at the end of the stroke. When subjected to high compressive forces, this system absorbs the impact, significantly reducing the unpleasant jolts associated with bottoming out. This maintains vehicle stability and alleviates stress on internal components, effectively extending the product's overall lifespan.
[Effects of the Hydraulic Bump Stopper (H.B.S.)]
This stroke-end shock absorption is performed by the Hydraulic Bump Stopper (H.B.S.), a hydraulic bump-stop mechanism. The H.B.S. absorbs the impact at full stroke by converting it into thermal energy inside the shock absorber: when the piston strokes beyond a set position, the actuating valve is pushed down, narrowing the oil ports so that high damping force is generated only near full bump. As a result, even in situations where the suspension readily reaches full bump—such as when carrying a full load of passengers or cargo—impacts from large gaps are absorbed smoothly, and the vehicle settles in a short time without the body being tossed upward. This mechanism proves especially effective for vehicles such as minivans and SUVs, where passenger and cargo loads vary widely.
[16-Level Damping Force Adjustment]
Equipped with a 16-level damping force adjustment function, the damper characteristics can be easily modified using a dedicated dial. This allows for precise tuning tailored to road conditions and personal preferences, catering to a wide range of needs—from the supple comfort required for daily city driving to the firm, responsive feel needed for high-speed cruising and sporty cornering. The multi-level adjustment achieves an ideal balance between direct handling and ride comfort, adapting flexibly to diverse driving scenarios and cargo loads.
[Ample Suspension Stroke]
To handle constantly changing road conditions, sufficient suspension travel is essential for effectively absorbing various vibrations from the road surface. The generous stroke design ensures the tires maintain firm contact with the ground even over bumps and uneven surfaces, delivering a premium driving experience that combines supple comfort at low speeds with composed stability at high speeds.
